On Wednesday 2nd May 2018 – both The Len Salmon Stadium, and Coles Park opened their gates to host the 2017-18 Bostik North Division 1 playoff semi finals.
Third-placed Bowers & Pitsea, who agonisingly finished just 1 point adrift from automatic promotion earned a home advantage against 6th positioning Canvey Island, who fell 7 points clear of fifth positioning Heybridge Swifts. Level on points with Pitsea, Haringey Borough too completed the season with 89 points, just 1 point short of automatically promoted Potters Bar Town.
Bowers last hosted the Islanders on Boxing Day, in which they took the lead after just 3 minutes. Steve Sheehan saw red before the half hour mark, and Pitsea’s man advantage paid dividends, as it was 2-1 by the full time whistle.
As for Borough and Swifts, they last met on the 24th March 2018 at Coles Park. The hosts gave themselves a 3-goal cushion by 51 minutes through Gabriel, McDonald and McCollin, however Heybridge made the ultimate comeback, scoring 3 inside 8 minutes.
